I KNOW THAT INTERIM ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER KEVIN HUFFMAN IS MEETING TOMORROW WITH REPUBLIC TO GET A BRIEFING ON THAT FIRST WEEK OF THE TEST. WE ARE UNDER THE PILOT PROGRAM. THE THREE TEST AREAS EACH HAVE ABOUT 100 PEOPLE, 100 RESIDENTS IN EACH AREA. THOSE INCLUDE TERRAIN CHALLENGED AREAS, ALLEYS, CURBSIDE PICKUP. THIS TEST PROJECT IS BEING DONE SPECIFICALLY SO THAT WE CAN GET FEEDBACK FROM THE RESIDENTS, AND SO THAT WE HAVE ADDITIONAL DATA AVAILABLE TO PROVIDE TO CITY COUNCIL AS THEY MAKE DECISIONS MOVING FORWARD ON NEW CONTRACT SERVICE OPTIONS. CURRENTLY, MUNICIPALITIES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS THAT ARE IN A COUNTY OF A POPULATION OF 1 MILLION OR MORE ARE PRECLUDED FROM USING HOT FUNDS OR HOTEL OCCUPANCY FUNDS TO SUPPORT AND PROMOTE SPORTING EVENTS. THIS PIECE OF LEGISLATION WOULD ACTUALLY FIX THAT, SO THAT DUNCANVILLE WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE AN EXEMPTION AND BE ABLE TO USE HOTEL OCCUPANCY FUNDS TO SUPPORT THE PROMOTION OF SPORTING EVENTS AT CITY OWNED FACILITIES IN THE CITY OF DUNCANVILLE. THESE PROJECTS ARE CONDUCTED TWICE A YEAR TO ENHANCE AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY'S IMPACT. THIS VITAL COMMUNITY EFFORT BRINGS LOCAL RESIDENTS BACK TO COMMUNITY STANDARDS, WHILE ELIMINATING A STRESSOR FOR THE HOMEOWNER. ALWAYS HAVING A SERVANT'S HEART, SHE OBTAINED THE ABILITY TO BE RECOGNIZED AS AN OFFICIAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION AND EXPANDED TO PARTNER WITH OTHER CHURCHES IN THE COMMUNITY WHILE ESTABLISHING AN OFFICIAL SEVEN MEMBER BOARD. HER WORK CONTINUES TO EXPAND. AT THIS MOMENT, MISS DUNN HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE BEAUTIFICATION OF 78 PROPERTIES.

THESE ARE LARGE JOBS THAT ENTAIL ANYTHING FROM REMOVING LARGE TREES THAT POSE A THREAT, THAT ARE DEAD AND NEED TO BE REMOVED, PAINTING HOUSES COMPLETELY, REPLACING SIDING, FASCIA, BUILDING FENCES, BUILDING RETAINING WALLS, WHICH WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE. AND THESE, THESE FOLKS THAT THAT WERE HELPING THROUGH PIP AND THROUGH BETTY ARE PEOPLE THAT WOULD HAVE NO WAY OUT, NO SOLUTIONS.
